Tama Waipara graduated from the Manhattan School of Music (New York) with a Masters Degree in Classical Clarinet. If it weren’t for a serious head injury (and a medical ban from playing the clarinet), audiences may never have been exposed to the rich vocal power of this award-winning artist.
After releasing his debut album Triump of Time at Central Park Summerstage, Tama toured Europe, opening for Fat Freddy’s Drop and Nathan Haines in London. In 2006, Tama returned home to NZ to release Fill Up The Silence, earning himself nominations for the APRA Silver Scrolls (2013, 2014), the NZ Music Awards and Māori Music Awards. An actor, musical director and producer, Tama recently performed with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and in Silo Theatre’s Brel.
